This is a list of do’s and don’ts to help you decide what’s best for you.

Standard Action

In order to better deal with the disease better the first thing you should do is talk to your doctor about your symptoms even if they are related to arthritis or not because they might be connected. It is important that you give your doctor all the information regarding your medical condition and medication. Make sure to ask him exactly what kind of arthritis do you have.

Daily Routine

You should do some exercises in the evening in order to feel less stiff in the morning. If you are standing still watching TV or doing other static activities make sure to adjust your position as much as possible. Tilt your neck from side to side, change the position of your hands and stretch your legs so your joints don’t get stiff. Walk around every half-hour to make sure you don’t get too numb.

You should try and do some lifestyle changes in order to ease the pain. The first thing you should do is manage weight because being overweight puts more pressure on your joints and causes more pain.

The second life change you should do is quit smoking because it causes stress on connective tissues resulting in more arthritis pain.

Exercise

Exercising is very important when suffering from arthritis because it can decrease your pain and improve your overall life quality

What to do

You should choose those activities that help build muscle around the joints without damaging them. You can ask a physical therapist for advice. Concentrate on stretching, range-of-motion exercises and strength training. Try exercises such as walking, cycling or water exercises.

What not to do

Activities that consist of high impact and repetitive motion should be avoided. You should avoid running, tennis, jumping and high-impact aerobics.

Medications

There are various types of medication available for treating arthritis. Although most of them are relatively safe, some of them have really dangerous side effects. Consult your doctor before taking any kind of medication.

What to do

You can take over-the-counter pain medications such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen because they can help you relieve arthritis pain caused by various activities.

Try applying cream that contains capsaicin to your joints to relieve arthritis pain. You can use it alone or with oral medication.

Make sure to consult your doctor for any over-the-counter medication.

What not to do

Don’t take a treatment for a very long period of time without consulting your doctor to make sure you don’t get any side effects

Make sure you take arthritis treatment on time. Don’t try to ignore the arthritis pain.

Depression is very common in people with arthritis. Treating depression with antidepressants or other methods also reduces the symptoms of arthritis.
